Corrections Policy

Last Updated: January 01, 2026

At News Speak India, we value the truth above all else. We know that trust is hard to build and easy to lose. Our readers rely on us for accurate news across multiple niches. We take this responsibility seriously.

However, journalism is a human effort. Sometimes, errors happen. When they do, we fix them. We do not hide our mistakes. We correct them openly and quickly. This page explains how we handle corrections. It details our commitment to accuracy and our legal compliance under Indian law.

Our Pledge to Accuracy

Accuracy is the foundation of our work. It is the core of our reputation. Our team follows strict fact-checking rules. We verify every claim before we publish. We talk to sources. We check documents. We confirm data.

Despite these efforts, mistakes can occur. A name might be spelled wrong. A number might be incorrect. In rare cases, new facts might change a story completely. When this happens, we act fast. We believe that transparency builds trust. We want our readers to know the full truth.

We follow the Norms of Journalistic Conduct set by the Press Council of India. We also adhere to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These laws guide our digital conduct. They ensure we remain accountable to you, our reader.

The Legal Framework in India

We operate under the laws of India. As a digital news publisher, we follow specific rules to ensure fairness.

1. IT Rules, 2021

The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 govern digital news. These rules require us to have a clear grievance mechanism. We must appoint a Grievance Officer. We must also follow a Code of Ethics. This policy fulfills those requirements. It shows how we manage content disputes.

2. Press Council of India Norms

We look to the Press Council of India for ethical guidance. Their norms state that newspapers must correct errors promptly. We apply this standard to our digital blog. If we publish false information, we must correct it. We must give it “due prominence.” This means the correction should be as visible as the original error.

3. Right of Reply

Indian law and ethics support the “Right of Reply.” If a report criticizes a person or organization, they have a right to defend themselves. We respect this. If we mention you in a critical way, we will listen to your side. If we made a mistake, we will publish your clarification.

How to Report an Error

We need your help to stay accurate. You might see a mistake before we do. We encourage you to report it.

The Reporting Process

Please send all correction requests to our editorial team. You can reach us easily.

  • Email: tamal@newsspeakindia.com

  • Subject Line: Please use “Correction Request: [Article Title]”

  • Postal Address: Kolkata, India (See Contact Page for full details)

What to Include

To help us fix the error fast, please include:

  1. The Link: The URL of the story with the error.

  2. The Error: Tell us exactly what is wrong. Quote the sentence if possible.

  3. The Truth: Tell us what the correct information is.

  4. The Proof: Show us why you are right. Send a link to a source or attach a document.

We review every email. We do not ignore valid complaints.

Our Verification Process

We do not just change articles blindly. We must verify the claim first. This ensures we do not introduce new errors.

Step 1: Receipt We receive your email. Our editor, Tamal Nath, or a senior team member reviews it. We check if the claim is factual or just an opinion. We only correct facts. We do not “correct” opinions unless they rely on false data.

Step 2: Investigation We look at our original sources. We check the reporter’s notes. We also look at the proof you provided. We may contact the author of the piece. We ask them to explain their source.

Step 3: Decision If the story is accurate, we will tell you. We will explain why we stand by our reporting. If the story is wrong, we proceed to Step 4.

Step 4: Correction We update the article. We fix the text. We also add a “Correction Note” at the bottom or top of the page. This note explains what was wrong and when we fixed it.

Types of Errors and How We Fix Them

Not all errors are the same. We handle them based on their severity.

1. Simple Typos

Sometimes we misspell a word. We might use the wrong grammar. These are minor issues. They do not change the meaning of the story.

  • Action: We fix the typo immediately.

  • Note: We usually do not add a formal note for simple spelling fixes unless the typo changed the meaning (e.g., writing “now” instead of “not”).

2. Factual Errors

These are serious. Examples include getting a name wrong, listing the wrong date, or misquoting someone.

  • Action: We correct the text.

  • Note: We add a bold Correction note at the bottom of the article. It will look like this:

Correction (January 1, 2026): An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the location of the event. It has been updated to reflect that the event took place in Kolkata.

3. Substantial Errors

Rarely, a major part of the story might be wrong. The central premise might be flawed.

  • Action: We rewrite the story or the affected section.

  • Note: We place a correction note at the top of the article. We want readers to see it first. We explain the error clearly.

4. Updates vs. Corrections

Sometimes news changes. A developing story gets new facts. This is not an error. It is an update.

  • Action: We add the new information.

  • Note: We use an Update note, not a Correction note.

Update (January 2, 2026): This story has been updated with new comments from the official spokesperson.

Unpublishing Policy

Readers often ask us to remove articles. They might not like the content. They might feel embarrassed by an old story.

General Rule: We do not “unpublish” articles. News is a historical record. Removing a story erases history. It violates public trust. If a story was true when we wrote it, it stays online.

Exceptions: We only remove content in extreme cases:

  1. Legal Order: If an Indian Court orders us to take it down.

  2. Safety: If the content puts a person’s life in danger.

  3. Total Fabrication: If a story is found to be entirely fake (a hoax) and cannot be saved by a correction.

In most cases, we prefer to update or correct the article rather than delete it. This keeps the record transparent.

Social Media Corrections

We share our news on social media. Errors can travel fast on platforms like Facebook, Twitter (X), or LinkedIn. We must correct them there, too.

If we post a wrong link or caption:

  1. Delete and Repost: If the post is very new, we might delete it and post the correct version.

  2. Reply with Correction: If the post has many shares, we cannot just delete it. We will reply to the original post. We will state the correction clearly.

  3. Retraction: For serious errors, we will make a new post apologizing for the mistake.

We cannot control how others share our content. But we control our own channels. We ensure our official feeds reflect the truth.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

In compliance with the IT Rules, 2021, News Speak India has a formal process for grievances. If you have a complaint about our content that goes beyond a simple correction, you can use this channel.

Grievance Officer: Tamal Nath Designation: Author & Editor-in-Chief Contact Email: tamal@newsspeakindia.com Location: Kolkata, West Bengal, India

How to File a Formal Grievance

You must send a signed email or letter. Please include:

  1. Your full name and contact details.

  2. The specific link (URL) you are complaining about.

  3. The exact nature of the complaint (e.g., Defamation, Copyright violation, Fake News).

  4. Any supporting documents?

We will acknowledge your email within 24 hours. We will resolve the issue within 15 days, as required by Indian law.

Fairness and the Right of Reply

We believe in fairness. Journalism should not be a one-way street. If we write about a person or a company, we try to get their side of the story.

Sometimes, we cannot reach them before publication. If you are the subject of a story and feel we missed your point of view, contact us. We grant a “Right of Reply.”

Our Process for Right of Reply:

  1. Send your statement to tamal@newsspeakindia.com.

  2. Keep it factual. Avoid personal attacks.

  3. If your claim is valid, we will update the story. We may include your full statement or a summary of it.

This ensures our readers get the complete picture. It aligns with the principles of natural justice and the Press Council of India norms.

Editorial Independence

Our corrections policy helps protect our independence. We do not change stories due to pressure from advertisers. We do not change stories because a politician asks us to. We only change stories if they are factually wrong.

News Speak India is a multi-niche blog. We cover many topics. Whether it is finance, tech, or lifestyle, the standard remains the same. A fact is a fact.

Our loyalty is to the reader. By admitting our mistakes, we prove that we work for you. We value your trust more than our ego.

Preventing Future Errors

Fixing mistakes is good. Preventing them is better. We learn from every error.

When we make a mistake, we ask “Why?”

  • Did we rush?

  • Did we misunderstand a document?

  • Did a source lie to us?

We discuss these questions. We update our internal training. If a specific author makes frequent mistakes, we provide them with more training. Tamal Nath oversees this quality control personally.

We also use tools to help us. We use digital tools to verify images. We cross-reference data with government websites. We aim to get it right the first time.

A Note on Image and Video Integrity

We do not alter images to mislead. We might crop a photo for size. We might adjust brightness for clarity. But we never add or remove elements from a news photo.

If we use an AI-generated image (for illustration), we will label it. We will say “Image generated by AI.” We want you to know what is real and what is digital art.

If we post a video, we ensure it is not taken out of context. If we find a video on our site is misleading, we will remove or correct it immediately.

Reader Involvement

You are our partners in truth. News Speak India grows when you engage with us.

If you see something that looks wrong, tell us. Do not assume we know. We cover a lot of news. We might miss a detail. Your eyes help us stay sharp.

We thank every reader who sends a polite correction request. You help us improve. You help us serve the Indian public better.
